Molluscum Contagiosum is a viral infection. It usually spreads by skin to skin to skin contact with a person who is infected.
The symptoms of molluscum are smooth, or flesh colored bumps with a dimple in the middle. They are usually painless, but may itch or feel tender.
Visual examination by a clinician is usually adequate to diagnose molluscum. There are a variety of treatments for molluscum, including an application of TCA or liquid nitrogen, or removal by lancet. The clinician will explain the method she used and will give you instructions for follow-up care. Be sure to follow these instructions exactly.
Your sexual partner needs to be examined and treated to avoid the possibility of re-infection. If your symptoms persist or recur after treatment, please call the clinic for an appointment. |
